Artist's biography

Moira Sweeney

Synopsis

'Coming Home is a journey meditating on the soul of life and power of nature across four continents. Contrasting with this is a deeply personal voice-over reflecting on the sometimes traumatic memories of growing up in Northern Ireland in the sixties and seventies. The images, celebrating survival, act as powerful backdrops while the filmmaker in the voice-over slowly comes to terms with the effects of violence. Ultimately the film is not just about unacceptable levels of violence in Northern Ireland and the countries within the film. It is a tribute to the spirit and integrity of survival in the wake of psychic damage.' (Text from A Directory of British Film & Video Artists, 1996, sourced from the artist on Dec 23rd 2016)
